AML/CTF resources for conveyancers and property lawyers - triSearch

AML/CTF resources for conveyancers and property lawyers

With less than two weeks remaining, conveyancers and property lawyers providing a designated service must complete their AUSTRAC enrolment and have the appropriate people, processes, and controls in place.

For firms still working through the requirements, the important thing is to keep moving. Enrolment is one part of compliance, but firms must also develop an AML/CTF program, appoint a Compliance Officer, train staff, conduct customer due diligence, report suspicious activity, and keep records.

To support that work, we’ve brought together triSearch’s AML/CTF workshops, webinars, articles, and training resources in one place. Whether you need help completing your AUSTRAC enrolment, onboarding a company or trust, introducing customer due diligence into your workflow, or understanding Reliance, start with the section most relevant to your firm.

Enrolling with AUSTRAC

If you have not yet enrolled with AUSTRAC, the 29 July 2026 deadline is approaching quickly. Our AML/CTF Hands-on Enrolment Workshop is the most practical place to start.

The session provides step-by-step guidance on AUSTRAC enrolment and shows how the triSearch Compliance Centre can support your broader compliance preparations. It also covers risk assessment, policies and procedures, staff training and program implementation.

For firms completing their enrolment and building their AML/CTF program this week, this recording brings the key steps together in one practical session.

Onboarding Non-individual Clients

Onboarding a company, trust, or partnership works differently from onboarding a person. These structures can involve several layers of ownership and control. Your firm must verify the entity itself, identify the people who ultimately own or control it, and complete the appropriate checks on those individuals.

The AML/CTF Onboarding for Non-individuals webinar breaks this process into five practical steps. It explains the difference between Know Your Customer and Know Your Business checks, how to identify ultimate beneficial owners, and what information your firm should collect and record. If companies, trusts, or developers make up part of your client base, this session will help you screen the right people and avoid missing a beneficial owner.

Understanding Customer Due Diligence

Verification of Identity is already part of most conveyancing workflows, but customer due diligence goes further. It brings identity verification, AML/CTF screening, customer information and risk assessment into one documented process.

Our AML/CTF Customer Due Diligence Workflow webinar follows that process from beginning to end, covering VOI, PEP and adverse media checks, KYC and KYB, risk assessment and more. This session will help firms understand where each check belongs in the onboarding workflow and how the results should inform the decision to accept or continue a matter.

Using Reliance to Grow Your Business

During a transaction, a client may be asked to provide similar identification and due diligence information to several regulated businesses. Reliance can reduce that duplication, but only with the right checks, responsibilities, and formal arrangements in place.

The AML/CTF Reliance webinar explains when one reporting entity can rely on the initial customer due diligence completed by another, what a Reliance Agreement should address, and what each party remains responsible for afterwards. It also looks at how Reliance can work between conveyancers, real estate agents, and referral partners, creating a more consistent experience for clients while supporting stronger professional relationships.

AML/CTF Check-In Session 1

This live Q&A session brought together conveyancers, property lawyers and industry experts to work through the AML/CTF questions firms are facing as they put their compliance programs into practice.

The recording will be added soon, offering practical guidance on common challenges, real-world scenarios and how AML/CTF requirements apply to day-to-day conveyancing work. Bookmark this page and check back shortly.

AML/CTF Training Videos for Your Firm

Additional AML/CTF training videos are available inside the triSearch Compliance Centre under the “Staff Training” tab. The videos cover key topics, such as the AUSTRAC Starter Kits, customer due diligence, roles and governance, and many more. Firms can use them to support internal training and build a clearer understanding of the obligations across their team.

Where to start

Wherever your firm is up to, the most important thing is to keep moving. If you still need to enrol, start with the Hands-on Enrolment Workshop, then work through the sessions most relevant to your client base.
